IMAGE INSPERATION
I am Shaun Schellings the creator of Shells by the Shore. This unique beach
themed collection was inspired by my love of the beach and the ocean. I have
always spent a lot of time at the beach, swimming, surfing, fishing and just
relaxing. Whilst beach fishing one day, waiting for that elusive big bite, I
began watching the waves roll up the shore. I loved the shapes that the waves
made as they crawled up the beach. This gave me the initial inspiration for
these designs.
I love painting and have been doing this for many years now. This along with
a love of photography and nature lead me to the Shells by the Shore collection.
Combining my artistic skills with my computer knowledge allowed me to start
mixing these mediums together. I have always enjoyed these mediums on there
own and this was the perfect chance to design something using several techniques.
The
photographs for the Shells by the Shore collection where taken on the Northern
Beaches of Sydney, Australia. These wave images were combined with digitally
drawn and painted seashells to create the Shells by the Shore collection
IMAGE CREATION
I often get asked how my images are created so here is a brief explanation.
These images are created through a combination of photography and digital painting.
All the shells have been hand drawn and painted on the computer using a tablet.
A tablet is essentially a pen for computers that can be used in software just
like a paintbrush.
Below is an example of how the shells were drawn and painted. Firstly I draw
an outline just like you would do drawing on paper. Then I slowly layer the
colours to get the desired look. Digital painting is a very powerful art medium
as it gives the painter a huge level of control. It is increasingly becoming
more and more popular among today's artists.
